Sun Ultra 5The Sun Ultra 5 is the entry level PCI based UltraSPARC workstation/server providing Ultra Power at the same cost as a PC.
The Ultra 5 is available in both desktop and server versions. The system utilizes a single 400Mhz UltraSPARC-IIi Processor with a 2Mbyte Cache. (The 270Mhz, 333Mhz and 360Mhz CPUs are now end-of-life).
The CPU is fixed to the motherboard and is not therefore upgradeable. 333Mhz, 360Mhz and 400Mhz desktop systems provide 24-bit PGX24 graphics. (Note that the PGX24 graphics card can only work in either 8-bit or 24-bit mode. If you have 8-bit applications, the PGX24 card has to be downgraded into an 8-bit only mode).
360Mhz systems come with a single 8.4Gb 5400rpm internal IDE disk drive as standard. 333Mhz and 400Mhz systems have a 9.1Gb or 20Gb 7200rpm IDE disks fitted. The use of IDE disk technology precludes the possibility of adding external disk or tape expansion without purchasing an additional PCI SCSI controller. The motherboard includes a 10/100Mbs UTP port and a serial interface. For ease of configuration, we suggest purchasing the system with an internal CD-ROM drive.
