The Sun Ray 1 Enterprise Appliance is a low cost device which requires no desktop administration.
The Sun Ray 1 Enterprise Appliance is a centrally managed device which draws all its power and computing resources from a centrally administered server. There is no Operating System or requirement for client software.
The Sun Ray 1 Enterprise Appliance has been designed with "Hot Desking" in mind. A user can move from one desk to another and retain instant access to sessions. The Sun Ray 1 Enterprise Appliance is a low cost device which, because of its simplicity is highly available, secure, scalable and interoperable. SMART card technology is used to store user profiles and for security.
The Sun Ray1 Enterprise Appliance depends on the server for application performance is therefore required 10/100 Switched Ethernet for dedicated bandwidth. Applications run on the Server and their output is rendered to a virtual frame buffer.
NT interoperability is achieved through the use of Citrix MetaFrame for Windows NT. (Requires Windows NT Terminal Server Edition). IBM connectivity is achieved through Sunlink 3270 and third party 5250.
