The Sun StorEdge SDLT320 tape drive is housed in a desktop enclosure and is the 'big brother' to the SDLT220 tape drive. It has a native capacity of 160GB and a throughput of 16MB/sec. The SDLT320 has four times the capacity of a DLT8000 drive and is three times as fast and 45% more efficient than the SDLT220.
The Sun StorEdge SDLT320 desktop tape drive will back up 40Gb in less than 45minutes, while the DLT8000 Flexipack requires almost 2 hours to backup the same amount of data. The native throughput speed of the SDLT320 is 16MB/sec compared to 6MB/s with DLT8000.
The SDLT320 is also backward read compatible with DLT type IV tapes and DLT7000 tapes.
