Independent Cisco Universal Gateways and Access Server Support
Cisco universal gateways consist of the Cisco AS5800 series universal gateways, which provide reliable, scalable data and voice gateway functions for large service providers; the Cisco AS5400 series universal gateway, a reliable, scalable data and voice gateway in only two rack units; and the Cisco AS5300 series universal gateway, the only one-rack unit gateway supporting two, four, or eight T1/7-port E1 configurations that provide universal port data, voice, and fax services on any port at any time.
Cisco universal gateways and access severs include a range of access products and services to address all phases of accessing the network. Cisco access gateway products connect the internal telephone system to the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN). Cisco access gateways use more complex route patterns that can contain wildcards and can route ranges of numbers with complex restrictions and manipulate directory numbers before the Cisco CallManager passes them onto an adjacent system such as a central office or private branch exchange (PBX).
